Building Permits
1. Where can I obtain a building permit?
Building permits are available on our website or at City Hall.
2. What are the setbacks for building permits?
Setbacks for building permits include 5ft from the alley, 20ft from street, 10ft from side street, & 10ft from property line.
3. Do I need a building permit for a fence?
Yes, a building permit is required for a fence but no fee is needed.
4. What do I need a building permit for?
Building permits are needed when a resident is adding onto a structure or building a new structure. Examples include garages, decks, in-ground swimming pools, porches, and fences.

Where is the City Hall located?
Our address is 22 S. Cedar, Nokomis, IL 62075.
What are the operating hours of City Hall?
We are open Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on legal holidays.
We will be closed on the following holidays:
- New Year's Day
- Presidents' Day - February 17.
- Memorial Day
- Juneteenth
- Independence Day or 4th of July.
- Labor Day
- Columbus Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Day after Thanksgiving - November 28.
- Christmas Day
What forms of payment are accepted by the City Hall?
We accept credit and debit cards, including tap-to-pay options, as well as cash, checks, and money orders.

Water Utilities
How could I have used this much water?
Several factors may contribute to an increased water bill:
- Inspect your toilets for leaks, as even a minor one can waste up to 200 gallons of water per day.
- Check the crawlspace or basement for a broken water pipe.
When is the due date for water bills?
Water bills are due on the 15th of each month.
As a new resident, how do I transfer the water service into my name?
Please visit the City Hall with a photo ID. If you do not have a photo ID, bring your social security card. A $150 deposit is required to initiate water service in your name.
